Crayon… In Real Life and Second Life
The big news of the day? Crayon.
With world headquarters at Crayonville Island in Second Life and a SL launch party scheduled for Thursday, October 26, Crayon’s founder Joseph Jaffe and the well-respected Shel Holtz, Neville Hobson and C.C. Chapman have created a new company that is, in the words of Shel,
"…something of a mashup. We’re not an agency or a consulting firm, but we do bring the best of what those types of companies have to offer. We’ll approach our assignments with fresh eyes that see the new environment in which traditional marketing and advertising is failing so dismally…. Engagement, conversation, co-creation, involvement—these are the approaches that we are anxious to bring to our assignments. Not as an afterthought or add-on, mind you, but as the cornerstone of our work."
Or as Neville puts well,
"We think we have something compelling to offer that will enable every client to do what every business really wants - get to the future. First."
Very exciting stuff. Congratulations to all!

This is the first time I have heard of the new marketing company Crayon, but I must say that it sounds like they are using an innovative and personable approach to their customers. It is extremely important to incorporate engagement, conversation, co-creation, and involvement when dealing with customers. I have never actually heard of Crayonville Island, but it sounds like an interesting place to have a launch party. I am interested to see how business works out for Crayon. Good luck to them!
Crayon as a marketing company is definitely something new for me. After lurking around on their website, they are for sure up to date on social media within pr and usign every avenue to reach their customers in a creative and personal way. Just recently learning about Second Life within the past month, it is very clear that it is becoming a success and a profit for businesses within it. It is a daring step to open up a business in the new second, reality life, but is a smart move for Crayon in my opinion. On Crayon’s website, they list their practice as “experimenting and introducing our clients to bold mix of alternatives to traditional communications that we like to call New Marketing.” Crayon will fulfill their bold mix by blending their real-life business with Second Life business. Congrats to Crayon on their creative work that they have founded their “new marketing” company on. I have a feeling they will be a success. Bold and creative is what everyone is desiring for the marketing world today!
A company headquartered in a virtual world blows my mind. Crayon is definitely at the forefront of online innovation. I am looking forward to watching their progress, and seeing people’s reactions to the the company. SecondLife will change the way everyone communicates in the near future- it’s already shaping traditional public relations and marketing practices. I feel lucky to be involved in PR at such a pivotal, exciting time.
