Ian,

Once law school is over you won't have time to recuperate, you'll be too busy studying for the bar!

I haven't specifically been keeping track of other online journals, but if I come across one that you don't already have on your list, I'll let you know.

Thanks for stopping by.

Andrea, thanks very much for the write-up. And I also appreciate the comments everyone had made here.
Yes, I do tend to be unnecessarily prosaic and verbose. I think continuous blogging is curing the problem, since "short and succinct" is more effective on a blog.
Once my actual Recent Development is made available, I will post it on my online footnote. Then I will change the introductory content to be a bit more "official" and less long-winded. I will move the current explanation to another post on my blog, and will replace it with something more brief.
Thanks again for the write-up, and everyone's input. Once law school is over, I will re-read Strunk and White ("omit needless words," etc.) and recuperate from my legal education.
And Andrea, are you aware of other online law journals? Have you been keeping track?

True; it does tend to rub off on you. I used to feel quite proud when I had a page to hand in in an essay that had footnotes occupying more of the page than the text itself!

The Blog Corollary to the Rule Against Perpetuities

Andrea surveys the state of online law journals, and I cant resist a cheap joke. I promise, I wont quit the day job....

Jack,

Perhaps in Ian's defense, the wordiness you refer to may be a reflection of his legal training. Although I can't speak for Ian, I know that reading case after case of oftentimes poorly written material can have an effect. But given your own legal background, you probably know that yourself.

Yes, the point about this being unprecedented is a fine one, and in the legal realm certainly a much bigger deal than it would be in the constantly-changing technology world.

Interesting concept. The language seems wordy: he could have said, ‘For further updated research, refer …’ but the point about this being unprecedent seems somewhat laboured by Mr Best. Still, there’s no denying that this is somewhat novel when a blog is used, rather than a conventional web site.

My legal training sure is rusty, but I'm almost positive that a footnote referencing a blog post which can be extended indefinitely has to be a violation of the rule against perpetuities.

:)
